Pictures of Sheridan area

This picture was taken last fall, just north of town. Noticed the wild turkeys in the foreground and the beautilful fall colors in the background of the first picture. Second picture is just showing fall colors.

Before pictures. I like the last two the best. Strong vivid colors. Are you using a digital camera or film? Looks like digital. Are the fall tree in pictures one and two...along a river?

Yes it is. Maybe about 50 feet across and about 3 feet deep. Kids around here love to tube down it. But it's damn cold in my opinion see'ings how it's snow fed off the mountain. haha

Also it's a digital camera. It's a Nikon, 995.

I love the trees along rivers...they give off a smell. The white alders smell...always remind me of the river. What kind of trees are they in the pictures?

hahaha I thought you'd get a kick out of it. Actually, there are elm, scrub oak, cottonwood and some elder's along the creeks in this area. But i couldn't tell you what those were exactly.

ex wife. If I asked her what kind of trees those were, she'd say, "Who the hell cares?" That's why she's an ex. She got a little testy as she aged.

This was taken in town at our park. You gotta get close because this shot was not made with a zoom.

Now that's one thing I'm gonna miss about Wyoming! We had a small herd in Evanston (fenced) along with a couple of Bull Elk in the state park along the Bear River. Just going for the viewing was one of our get-a-ways.
Wonder if Oregon has any Bison? (probably water-buffalo, eh?)
Great shots 53.
I wonder, along with your pics of the river area, if you have any of the Indian-battle stories from the area?
(Custer died for your sins)
Peace

No offense to Custer really - and I'll explain.
When I was basing out of the Buffalo/Sheridan area and spending a lot of time in the Powder River Basin of MT, I had a few folks with me who knew the history of the area regarding Calvary & Indian skirmishes and events. We'd often ride from Buffalo up to Sheridan and along the way, they'd point up this draw or that canyon and tell stories of who did what to whom. Almost every story was about Custer's predecessor or his men chasing the Indian women and/or children from the creek, massacre-ing everything in their path. It was this sort of activity that set Custer up for his doom as the Chiefs from all over had already congregated to retaliate for the unfair and horrendous acts.
Every hill around you has a story - and I often speak of the markers out in the middle of nowhere for many miles around listing the one or two or more soldiers and Indians who lost their lives on that particular spot.
I also met the crazy woman of Crazy Woman Creek - complete with rifle in hand!!

Saw a book the other day entitled "Meet the Locals" with a nice pic of "Bigfoot".
There's also another term for them in this area, right? Or, is that a different creature?

Right in the heart of it. Custers battle field is just north of us by about 50 miles. The Fetterman battle field is just south of us. Up on the hill by the Junior High is the Kendrick mansion. It was Kendrick's house in town. Some people don't recognize the name but Kendrick was half of the faction of the Johnson County War.

Lots of history in this area.

Re: Pictures of Sheridan area

Cool 53!

Back in my area of the eastern-midwest (OH, IN, KY), history was not quite so evident unless one wanted to tour the civil-war battlefields which were quite poignant what with 100 year old blood still staining the rocks.
But when I moved to the Rockies, history took on a new meaning.
There's the native history of the tribes that were there, how the Sioux got pushed to the Dakotas, the 12 brothers & 12 tribes - and their maps of gold deposits.
There are the Spanish and French histories of exploration.
There is the Lewis & Clark history.
The mountain-man & trapper histories.
The Mormon-trek history and history of the Mormon wars.
The Calvary & histories of Indian wars.
The Cowboy histories.
Mining & Oil history.
So much to learn about an area so relatively new in our U.S. history.
Moving to Utah and moving to Wyoming started a wonderful chapter in my life.

I know what you mean. I am in complete awe every day. I learn something new almost daily. All you have to do is get off your duff and look around. I've had the extreme pleasure of meeting some Crow Indians and have been invited to gatherings. The stories those folks know and will relate to you are awsome to say the least. Some of the stories would seem trivial to most folks, but combined with the stories of others, can relate with each other. It's like putting together a very intense puzzle.

Good Morning 53,

Before sunrise. You're up early in the mornings:) Love all that color. My 3 year old at sunset will say. It is pink outside mama. Mr. Sunshine is going away. Well I better get breakfast on.

By the way we have had salsa on the table everynight since I made it. The batch is almost gone.

Will be back later.

Izzy

Pictures of Sheridan area

I went for a walk today. Made it about 3 miles before I was just tuckered out. But I took my camera along.

Walking down the road I live on, looking to the South West.

A little further down the same road but took the picture to the West.

The Highschool. It's located on 640 acres of land so it has plenty of room for expansion.

As I was walking past Holly Sugar (testing facility) I noticed something. So I backed up and took this shot. Then I ducked because he/she spooked and decided to bolt. I ducked behind the fence and the deer jumped straight over me, run across the road and onto the golf course. I was a little too busy to get a second shot.
